"No Comparison"
There is no comparison between Pit Magic and other slurry management products. Other products did nothing on solids for us. I have treated all the sow houses and some of the weaner houses in last week and we should have some movement there in the next few weeks. I have shifted 30% extra slurry from our farm units without any agitation. Each farm usually produces around 2m gallons per year. Last year we moved 2.8m gallons and 2.4m gallons respectively. Pit Magic: Customer demonstration, North Carolina 2023-2025
A customer in North Carolina asked for help with a lagoon on his sow farm. The lagoon holds roughly 4,000,000 gallons of waste and had not been agitated or had sludge removed in 38 years. The customer’s goals were to reduce sludge layer thickness and decrease odour.
An initial treatment of Pit Magic (158 lbs) was applied in November 2023, followed by a second application of 150 lbs approximately two weeks later. Subsequently, one pound was added every two weeks while pigs were present to manage new effluent. Sludge depth was measured again in July 2024. In March 2025, the lagoon was agitated for the first time and treated again with Pit Magic (100 lbs).
A few days after the initial application, a unique disruption occurred in the lagoon, with small pockets of sludge bubbling to the surface. Over time, these pockets expanded into large sheets of sludge rising up from the bottom of the lagoon. The spontaneous sludge release appears to be a form of self-agitation generated by the active ingredients in Pit Magic. This process continued for over 14 months.

Conclusion
Trial results indicated that Pit Magic is effective in reducing sludge and eliminating odour in even the most difficult situations. Over the course of 22 months, it reduced existing sludge depth by 2.4’ and prevented the accumulation of ~6” of new sludge, for a total of 2’11” in sludge reduction. In addition, the use of Pit Magic results in an effect called “spontaneous sludge release” wherein the lagoon undergoes self-agitation. When this happens, the compacted sludge is dislodged and rises to the surface, mixing with the water layer.
Sludge surveys performed at the end of the trial suggest that Pit Magic becomes even more effective when used in combination with mechanical agitation, as it was able to reduce sludge depth by another 12” in one month’s time (April to May 2025, following Pit Magic application and agitation in March).
Although the customer reported that the lagoon typically accumulated 2-3 inches of sludge annually, average sludge thickness was reduced from 5.9 feet to 3.5 feet over the course of the trial. This indicates a total reduction of 29 inches of existing sludge. In addition, the ammonia levels in the effluent water were reduced and odour was eliminated.
May 2025: Water quality in the lagoon had improved so extensively that ducks were observed swimming in it!
